Attention all techies

For those of you who not only enjoy riding on the open road but know a thing or two about the bikes themselves, a new scheme could help you further your career.
The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) is backing an Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme which aims to recognise the competence and knowledge of technicians.
So start swotting up, because to become accredited, techies will need to pass an "online knowledge test" and prove their worth in a series of practically-based tasks.
The whole thing is assessed by an ATA evaluator and if you pass you get given what is sure to be a very swanky photo-identification card and sign an official code of conduct. What's more, you'll be listed on ATA's website and the whole thing is valid for five years.
If you're interested, there is due to be two ways of accessing the scheme when it is launched in 2007.
You can either pop down to an ATA-approved assessment centre or go through an assessment programme from an approved vehicle manufacturer.
The MCIA focuses on representing the supply side of the industry and "to develop and sustain an environment whereby motorcycling can flourish".
So get those specs on and crack open the books…
