All of you that betted on Nicky Hayden for this year's MotoGP title can buy the drinks tonight, because he positively stormed to championship victory at Valenciana yesterday.
An incredible race saw Hayden finish in third place as Valentino Rossi - who had lead the table by eight points prior to the race – spectacularly crashed out in lap four.
Lowsiding his Yamaha, Rossi made an early exit from the race and upon rejoining couldn't make up the distance, eventually finishing in a depressing 13th place.
But third was enough for Repsol Honda's Hayden, who clinched his first ever MotoGP title with a time of 47 minutes and four seconds, cruising to glory behind Loris Capirossi and race-winner Troy Bayliss.
"To be called 'champion' sounds really good," Kentucky-born Hayden said on the podium.
"You dedicate your life to something and when you win you just feel really good…I'm so humbled by all this and it's been a great day for me."
Aww shucks, isn't that just the sweetest thing?
