Best-selling Scottish author Iain Banks has done the unthinkable and swapped his collection of beautiful cars for a new hybrid motor.
According to the Daily Record, Banks - author of dark and sometimes gruesome stories such as The Wasp Factory and The Crow Road – has sold his black soft-top Porsche 911 after feeling the need to be more eco-friendly with the hybrid.
But, proving that he still knows what's most important, he has not sold his red Honda VFR8-F1 motorbike. A friend of his told the paper that selling the beauty "might have been too much of a wrench".
The author, who specialised in the subject of malt whisky when he appeared on and won a celebrity edition of TV quiz show Mastermind, also took the helm of a team of University Challenge: The Professionals.
The car clear-out also included Banks getting shot of his Land Rover TD5 and BMW M5.
