Stefan Everts has put his name all over 2006, scooping major titles at the 2006 FIM Motorcross awards and seeing off his career on top of the pack. The legendary rider was the most celebrated star of the night, winning a trophy for his 101 Grand Prix wins, another trophy for career achievement, an award for the 2006 FIM Motocross Championship and yet another trophy for ten World Championship wins. He was also presented with a unique red plate with number 72 for life as well as a personalised mobile phone, courtesy of Youthstream's president Giuseppe Luongo. With ten World Titles and 101 Grand Prix titles under his belt, Everts can officially hang up his gloves and call it a career. The 2006 FIM Motocross award ceremony took place in the suitably grand setting of Salle des Etoiles in Monaco. "It was a great event," commented Giuseppe Luongo. "This place is fantastic and unique in the world: the greatest champions and artists in the world celebrate here. Our sport grew a lot, but the level is going to become higher and higher." Involving head-to-head races on all types of terrain from grass to mud, motocross is widely recognised as the most demanding of all motorbike competitions.
