Motorcycle insurance 'similar to car insurance'

Those who may be new to the world of motorcycling can expect to be considered for insurance on a similar basis to that of car insurance, it has been claimed.
According to Charlotte Lidster, a spokesperson for AA Financial Services, motorcycle insurance premiums are worked out using factors such as the applicant's postcode and driving history.
In addition, the model of the bike may be taken into consideration as with car insurance policies, where a larger engine size may incur higher premiums.
She remarked that the driver's location, such as whether they live in an urban or rural area, may affect the price of insurance, with higher-risk areas potentially generating more expensive policies.
High-risk areas could be classed as those with increased crime rates or locations in inner-city areas.
But Ms Lidster added that the introduction of black box technology in vehicles may lead to certain insurers calculating premiums on where and when the motorist drives.
