Northumberland to be equipped with Fire Bikes

Fire and rescue staff in Northumberland look set to extend their forces to the two-wheeled variety in order to promote safety to motorbike riders.
The Fire Bike has been designed and created to police-level specifications and is to be used by trained workers to offer support and a range of advice to bike lovers, Berwick Today reports.
It is also intended to reach riders in more rural parts of the county in what is being labelled "an innovative and highly visible way" to promote safety awareness.
According to project officer David Stone, fire and rescue staff are "ideally placed" to provide advice and encouragement to riders as they often witness the tragic consequences of unsafe driving.
And Mr Stone explained that further motorcycle initiatives are on the cards for 2007, with assessment rides available for bikers who want to keep their skills on top form.
In related news, the world's first hydrogen-powered motorbike was tested this week by reviewers at the BBC, who described riding it as "weird and fun".
