An increasing number of elderly women are taking up motorbiking, it has been revealed.
Research from AA Insurance shows that more than a fifth of all female motorcyclists in the UK are over the age of 65.
Furthermore, the motorbike insurance provider reveals that the most powerful bike to be insured in the last five years is owned by an old-aged pensioner, while the oldest female biker in the world approaching her 80th birthday.
"I've noticed a lot more ladies motorcycling and it seems to be really catching on amongst...more mature people," Angela Ashford, a 74-year-old biker, told the insurance provider.
"It is really easy to strike up a conversation because there is a real sense of friendship and interest."
The study also revealed that between 2005 and 2006 there was a 36 per cent increase in men and women over the age of 60 buying a motorcycle.
And while those aged 17-20 are also increasingly investing in a two-wheeled mode of transport, AA Insurance claims that more pensioners purchase motorbike insurance than their children. AA Insurance offers car and van insurance in addition to motorcycle insurance.
