Elderly 'facing insurance disadvantages'

Older people in the UK are facing increasing disadvantages when it comes to obtaining car insurance, it has been revealed.
A new report from Age Concern and Help the Aged has shown that one in four people over the age of 75 and one in five people aged over 65 were unable to obtain motor insurance quotes compared to one in three 30-year-olds.
The survey also revealed that 31 per cent of over 80-year-olds feel discriminated against when looking to get a car insurance quotation.
"This research confirms our suspicions that older people often get a rough deal from the insurance industry," commented David Sinclair, senior policy manager at Help the Aged.
"Their inability to provide quotes for so many older people smacks of market failure."
Mr Sinclair added that as the older population grows, this will become a bigger issue as it is anticipated that the number of those aged over 70 who hold a driving license will increase from four million now to over ten million by 2050.
