US bike event expects 75,000 riders

A five-day US biking event began in style yesterday when the first of thousands of riders roared into a Nevada town.
The Laughlin River Run is an annual event and sees scores of bike enthusiasts descend on the town and neighbouring communities in Arizona.
This year sees the 25th anniversary of the bike parade, which involves each rider travelling through the towns, with many choosing their trusty Harley-Davidsons as the vehicle of choice.
And a record turnout is expected, reports the Daily News, due to the run celebrating its silver anniversary.
However, a number of motorbikes which global positioning system technology are being placed at certain points of the run in an attempt to catch would-be thieves, who may take advantage of the busy atmosphere and steal a hog.
"You never know what to expect," Mohave county sheriff Tom Sheahan told the newspaper. "You prepare for the worst and hope for the best."
A fight broke out at the River Run in 2002, involving tens of bikers belonging to the Hells Angels and Mongols motorbike gangs.
