Valentino Rossi has successfully claimed his six consecutive win at his home circuit in Italy.
Despite a rather poor start, the five-time MotoGP world champion, managed to overcome his third place start and the fact that he was down in eighth position by the first turn of the Mugello course.
However, Rossi's Yamaha eventually took the front on the ninth lap and finished three seconds ahead of the Honda of Daniel Pedrosa with Brazil's Alex Barros third on a Ducati.
"I didn't get a very good start but once my tyres had warmed up my M1 really flew and I was able to fight back to the front," explained Rossi.
He added: "Mugello is a magical track for me and this victory gives us a lot of power and confidence for the next races."
The win means that Rossi is just nine points behind series-leader Casey Stoner with a number of his favourite circuits still to come over the coming weeks.
