BMF: Lock up bike and get motorcycle insurance

The British Motorcyclists' Federation (BMF) is urging owners to lock up their bikes and ensure they have adequate insurance to combat any possible theft.
Recent figures from the BMF show that bikes are more at risk of being stolen than cars and that people should take steps to ensure they do not attract the attention of thieves.
Jeff Stone, media & PR manager of the BMF, explained: "Whereas … theft of cars has dropped dramatically, theft of motorcycles has stayed the same if not increased."
"It doesn't matter how many locks you can put on them – two men can lift the motorcycle into the transit van and it's gone. Thieves will do anything to steal a motorcycle," he added.
Taking additional precautions such as locking it to a friend's bike or use provided steel parking rails can help to reduce risk. Motorcyclists should also ensure that their current bike insurance cover is up-to-date and full protects against any possible theft.
Set-up in 1960, the BMF aims to highlight and protect the interests of the UK's motorcycling community.
