Police offer motorbike security tips

Police in the area of Weston-super-Mare are urging motorcyclists to take adequate steps to ensure they minimise the risk of having their vehicle stolen.
Following 13 separate reports of motorcycle, scooter and moped theft last month, PC Steve Burrough of the region's crime reduction unit has released a set of tips on becoming "bikewise" - although riders may also find that a motorbike insurance policy can also be helpful.
The tips include never leaving anything in full view, such as helmets or gloves, while not completely relying on a steering lock but also fitting an immobiliser or alarm system.
In addition, a "good quality" ground anchor might be more effective than a chain through the wheel - as opportunistic thieves may decide to steal the bike anyway.
Bikers are also being urged to not only store their hog in a garage if possible, but cover it up while it is in there "so it is less visible".
Yesterday saw drivers in the area of Congleton warned to use a garage to store their car as a number of thefts had recently taken place in the town.
