Stunt rider Robbie Maddison has revealed his upcoming world record attempt will be dedicated to Evel Knievel.
Maddison will endeavour to jump a football field on his motorcycle in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve.
In an email to website MotorcyleNews, Maddison states that Knievel was the man who originally inspired him to become a stunt bike rider.
He adds that he was "captivated" by Knievel's stunts as a child.
"As sad as his passing is I know he was in a lot of pain and was fighting both diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It's comforting to know he is not living in pain anymore, but I'm deeply saddened by the news of his death," he concludes.
Knievel passed away last week at the age of 69 and a final tribute to him will include a fireworks show and public viewing of his body in his hometown of Butte, Montana.
