Good pet owners particularly require pet insurance

British pet owners will take the advice of their vet over that of any other health professional, a new study has found. According to a survey by NOP for pet insurance provider Petplan, 26 per cent of pet owners trust their vet more than any other form of health professional. NOP also found that 24 per cent trusted their vet over their optician, 24 per cent also trusted their vet more than their hospital doctor, while 23 per cent had more faith in them than their dentist. More than half of respondents said they were likely to take their pet to the local vet at the first signs of ill health, but would wait for further symptoms in their own health before going to the GP. This underlines how crucial it is that good pet owners in particular have adequate pet insurance. While bad pet owners are unlikely to consider paying for treatment, caring but uninsured pet owners may be forced to choose between their pet and their wallet. With the average cat costing as much as £9,500 and a dog up to £13,000 to care for over its lifetime, owners are urged to check that their pet insurance cover is not just for a limited period or for a fixed amount, but for the pet's life in order to avoid unexpected and expensive vets bills.
