Fight pet snatchers with pet insurance

Contrary to public perception the fastest growing crime in the UK is not ID fraud, but dog theft. Figures from pet insurance providers revealed that 40,000 dogs are reported missing every year, while an estimated 50,000 a year are stolen. Lionel Blair and Jordan are two famous examples of the victims of dog theft, the perpetrators of which typically target either prestigious breeds or those that may be used for fighting. However, owners can take several important steps to mitigate the chances of having their dog stolen. Owners should ensure dogs are wearing collars with identification tags, microchip the dog so it can be easily found and keep all documentation relating to the dog safe. But taking out adequate pet insurance is the most comprehensive manner of protecting a household's pets. A decent pet insurance policy should cover the costs of advertising, reward and repatriation, or pay out for the value of the dog if it is not recovered. And with dog ransoms often running into thousands of pounds owners can not afford to be complacent.
