RSPCA offers new pet insurance

The RSPCA is to team up with AXA insurance to offer a new pet insurance deal which pays 20 per cent of every policy back to the society to help in its work. When adopting an animal from RSPCA the insurance policy will come with two months' free coverage. Currently less than a quarter of domestic cats and dogs have pet insurance. "Taking out insurance is an integral part of being a responsible pet owner and the RSPCA would like it to become a routine part of pet care," said the RSPCA's head of fundraising, Anthony Baumann. "Too often minor medical problems can escalate because people are worried about taking their animal to the vet in case they cannot afford the treatment - their animals suffer unnecessarily as a result." The cat has taken over from the dog as Britain's favourite pet, according to the BBC. There are about 7.5 million cats in British homes, compared to approximately 6.1 million dogs, the BBC reported.
