Pooches and moggies may suffer in the sun

As the sun continues to shine and the heat skyrockets, pets can fall victim to many heat related afflictions, some of which can be very costly to treat, according to insurance provider More Than. Treating heatstroke can cost on average £275 and sunburn can cost almost as much, at £270, the insurer reports. Bee or wasp stings and ear infections caused as a result of swimming in dirty water are other pet afflictions that can go hand in hand with the advent of summer. Mel Everest, pet product manager at More Than, comments: "While we are all enjoying the sun we should spare a thought for our furry friends who need special care to ensure they don't suffer from the heat. "Exercise dogs in the early morning or evening to avoid the hottest time of day, and provide lots of water to cool your pet down in the heat." Owners should also be aware of some of the possible dangers inherent in there gardens, such as poisonous plants and green houses that don't have safety glass. The met office predicted Wednesday of this week could see temperatures running as high as 29 degrees centigrade.
