Pet insurance for over 50's introduced

An insurance company specialising in insurance for those aged over 50 have started to offer pet insurance, a symptom of the growing popularity of pet owners investing in coverage for their animals.
The new offering from RIAS provides insurance for the entire lifetime of the pet in question, regardless of age.
This is in contrast to many pet insurers who either raise premiums or refuse to insure a pet at all if they are two thirds of the way through their life span.
Janet Connor, managing director of RIAS, said: "With one in three pet owners having made unplanned visits to the vet over the last two years and the average cost of each visit being £130, getting a pet insured can offer owners real peace of mind.
"Our pet insurance offering is all about providing customers that reassurance."
The benefits that owning a pet can bring to owners is enormous and often a pet becomes very important to people, Ms Connor added.
Meanwhile authorities in Paris claim to be winning the war against dog mess by levying heavy fines against those whose animals foul the sidewalk, Reuters reports.
