A new pet insurance plan has been introduced that claims to cater for pet lovers who are also conscious of their budget.
The plan from insurance provider More Than has no maximum age limit for cats and dogs to be insured and is to be launched in conjunction with a website for animal lovers.
According to More Than, 95 per cent of vets agree that "pet insurance is a responsible thing for pet owners to have" and its new scheme covers the first 12 months of any vets' bills the animal may incur.
More Than also indicates that 82 per cent of pets in the UK are not insured. Melvin Everest, pet product manager for the insurer, says that it has introduced the new scheme "to help even the most budget-conscious pet owners ensure their pets can be protected".
Pet insurance advice website Insure Your Pet states that premiums are usually calculated by the species, breed and age of a pet, in addition to where it lives.
