Protect your pets on fireworks night

Owners are being advised to ensure they have adequate pet insurance for their animals as the firework season approaches.
According to Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, this time of year can be "traumatic and dangerous" for pets and could lead to other accidents if the animal was to go astray.
The noise made by fireworks and flashing lights can, he continued, cause distress and panic for animals which could have expensive consequences.
Pet insurance is essential, Mr Mason remarked, in case a pet is injured or causes an accident for which the owners could be liable. In addition, some policies include cover if a financial reward is needed when a pet goes missing.
"We would urge owners to keep their pets safe inside this bonfire night and check their insurance is adequate," he added.
In a survey by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, it was found that 4,825 animals were treated for firework-related injuries or need to be prescribed sedatives in 2001.
