Ensure safety for travelling pets

In addition to ensuring an adequate level of pet insurance for furry household friends, owners are also being advised to provide them with protection while travelling.
Following Road Safety Week, which ended on November 12th, Pethealthcare.co.uk has issued a number of tips on how to make sure pets are not exposed to any additional risks on the road.
It has recommended the use of an in-car safety harness for dogs travelling in cars, which is placed on the dog and then attached to a normal seatbelt.
In addition, a dog guard separating the pet from the driver could help to reduce any distractions the motorist could face while driving, as this could potentially cause an accident and a subsequent pet insurance or car insurance claim.
For smaller animals, Pethealthcare.co.uk advises the use of a pet carrier or crate, which aims to ensure the pet is transported safely and comfortably.
According to the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals, an unprotected pet in a car is at as much risk as a normal passenger if the car was to crash. Many cover policies involve lifetime insurance for a pet although this must be renewed on an annual basis.
