Pet insurance outsells PMI by five to one

A total of five million pet insurance policies have been purchased in the UK, against one million personal medical insurance (PMI) plans, it has been found.
Research from data collection group Defaqto discovered that PMI policies are not proving to be popular with consumers throughout the country, with pet insurance policies outnumbering them five to one.
And people appear to believe that insuring their pets, home and car is "more important than taking out individual PMI", according to Defaqto's head of life and protection, Nick Telfer.
Pet insurance can provide financial assistance should an animal need medical attention.
A recent survey by Purina ONE found that 100 per cent of cat owners in the UK worry about their pet's health more than their own.
Some 64 per cent of respondents admitted to taking their cat to the vet for regular check-ups regardless of whether they were ill or not.
