Direct Line: Pet insurance available for holidays

Those who have bought or plan to buy pet insurance could benefit from news that Direct Line insures pets when they are on holiday overseas as well as in the UK.
Lindsay Wienand, a spokesperson for the company, said that reimbursement for holiday costs may be available if a pet needed veterinary care or treatment while abroad.
Basic pet insurance plans generally cover aspects of care such as veterinary fees or vaccinations, although many owners now choose to take their pets on holiday with them.
"If your cat or dog is ill while abroad I do believe we cover holiday cost reimbursement if you need to go back," said Ms Wienand.
In addition, she said that holiday pet insurance was becoming more popular as it is an "add-on" to regular pet cover, subject to certain criteria.
For example, if leaving for a holiday, owners may have to inform the insurer that the animal was accompanying them and it had received all of the necessary vaccinations.
Direct Line also offers home insurance and car insurance as part of its product range.
