'Holidaymakers advised to get pet insurance before jetting off'

People hoping to head abroad this summer with their pets should ensure they take out pet insurance, advises an insurer.
According to Halifax Pet Insurance, pet health cover is a must for holidaymakers wanting to be joined by their dogs or cats abroad since it covers vets fees and other costs if the unexpected occurs while overseas.
In addition, the pet insurance provider recommends that Britons should ensure that they apply for their pet passports in plenty of time since the process can take up to six months before the pet is allowed out of the country.
"All owners who are considering taking their pets abroad on holiday should act now," says Vicky Watson, spokesperson for Halifax Pet Insurance.
She adds that people looking to take their pets on holiday this August need to start preparing their pet passport applications this month.
A significant number of pets could be taken abroad by their owners this year as many cannot bear to be parted, with a recent poll from price comparison site Swiftcover demonstrating this sentiment as 34 per cent of Britons said they would rather cuddle up on the settee with their dog or cat then with their partner.
