'Pet insurance is like car insurance'

Pet insurance can be likened to motor insurance, it has been claimed.

According to a spokesperson for the Kennel Club the two forms of insurance have a number of similarities and premium prices can vary in different post code areas.

The comments from the Kennel Club representative follow the annual Crufts Dog Show, which saw a Tibetan Terrier named Willy named champion.

It was also noted by the spokesperson that while Willy's value might have gone up following his victory at the show, it is unlikely that his pet insurance premiums will have been affected.

"Insurance companies offer [varying] rates of insurance for different breeds of dogs," the spokesperson noted, adding that policies sometimes depend on the type of breed.

The Kennel Club was founded in 1873 and offers dog owners information and advice on a range of dog-related issues including welfare, health, training and breeding.
