Pet insurance provider issues warning to smokers

Animal lovers may want to consider purchasing a pet insurance plan for their furry friends following a warning issued to smokers about the forthcoming ban.
Scheduled to come into effect across England this July is a smoking ban which will render sparking up in indoor public places illegal.
But this could have a negative effect on pets, for research cited by insurance company More Than found that 16 per cent of pet owners say they will spend more time smoking at home.
And second-hand smoke can affect pets in the same way it does humans - causing coughing, bronchitis and possibly fatal illnesses.
"Paw-sive smoking may sound like a joke, but it's a serious issue," maintained Melvin Everest, More Than's head of pet insurance.
"Many pets are helpless to passive smoking and it's sad to see that so many of them are at risk of serious illness because of their owners' behaviour."
Pet insurance may provide financial assistance should a domestic animal need emergency healthcare or operations.
