Pet insurance claims 'rise in hot weather'

The number of pet insurance claims tends to rise in the hotter months of the year, it has been suggested.
Monica McCormack, a spokesperson for Tesco Personal Finance, said that the warmer weather encourages more owners to take their dogs outside for a walk.
However, this could cause problems such as sunburn, bites, or pets getting things stuck in their throats, she continued.
And a higher number of road accidents could mean more animals sustain injuries which result in a pet insurance claim.
"Because they're out and about more [there are] things that we'll see more of," Ms McCormack remarked. "These can be bites, vomiting, foreign bodies that they have in their ears or have swallowed."
In addition to dogs being taken for more walks, the insurer also said certain cats can suffer from sunburned ears if not properly protected.
Sunscreen specially formulated for pets is available to buy and could be useful for those who want to help safeguard their loved one's health this summer.
