Pet insurance "doesn't have to be expensive"

Those considering a pet insurance policy may be pleased to hear that this type of cover can be affordable and does not have to be an expensive purchase, according to a high street provider.
Moreover, pet insurance could protect owners from having to shell out further for vet fees, which are already rising and can escalate as a dog or cat gets older and needs more medical care, warns Claire Moyles, manager of Sainsbury's Pet Insurance.
According to research from the financial services provider, vet fees constitute 19 per cent of the annual cost of owning a dog and 21 per cent of that of a feline friend.
But these can often be avoided with adequate cover, Ms Moyles continues.
"It's important that current owners and those thinking of buying a pet fully appreciate the financial commitment," she says. "With appropriate pet cover a significant proportion of these sometimes daunting costs can be protected against."
Sainsbury's Bank also offers products such as home and car insurance.
