Pet insurance 'part of being a responsible owner'

Purchasing pet insurance is part and parcel of being a responsible pet owner, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has said today.
Urging owners to provide pet insurance for their furry friends, the charity also claimed that the right cover can provide assistance in unforeseen financial circumstances such as veterinary bills.
The RSPCA said that many people do not consider how much caring for an animal can cost, as there are lots of things that may incur a trip to the vet.
"If for example you have a cat, potentially you could have that cat for 16 years or even more. That's a long time," remarked Rebecca Ralph, the charity's press officer.
"We would urge people to take out pet insurance."
The RSPCA is an organisation that works throughout England and Wales to ensure and promote animal welfare.
