Owners given tips on summer cat safety

A list of advice for cat owners has been released in order to boost the protection levels they can give to their animals during summer. Complied by Stourbridge Cats Protection, the tips urged people to take out adequate measures - which may include pet insurance - should their feline companions come to any harm, reports expressandstar.com. A number of things during the summer are potentially hazardous to cats, the body stated, such as overexposure to the hot summer sun and barbeques. In addition, owners were warned that pest control products can often be dangerous to felines, so owners must not risk placing them near the animals. The organisation also said that treatments are available to protect cats against flea attacks, which are more prevalent in the summer months. If cats go outside, there are a number of dangers that may need to be avoided, it added. "Check plants and flowers are feline friendly. Certain plants and flowers can be toxic to cats," the body suggested. In related news, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has urged novice pet owners to take out adequate pet insurance cover.
