Pet insurance 'a growing trend'

Buying pet insurance is a growing trend and people may find peace of mind by covering their furry friend with such a policy, it has been claimed.
Writing in US publication the Sun Chronicle, Tracie Laliberte-Bailey said she recently considered taking out pet insurance after her puppy injured its eye and needed medical care.
And while paying for the treatment, Ms Laliberte-Bailey said she started to think about what the money might have been better spent on.
Some pet insurance plans, she wrote, already pay for themselves in terms of what is covered for regular veterinary check-ups in addition to emergency medicine.
"My research revealed that there are a handful of companies that offer a number of different plans from routine care coverage to life-threatening illness protection," she concluded.
In related news, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recently spoke on the subject of pet insurance, urging that providing cover for a loved one is all part of being a responsible owner.
