Owners warned not leave pets in car

Owners are being warned to take care during the summer months and not leave their pets unattended in a car.
According to Dr Richard Stanwick, chief medical health officer for the Vancouver Island Health Authority, the temperature in a car when it is in direct sunlight can reach 50 degrees C (120 degrees F) - meaning any animal left inside may be at risk from severe dehydration or even death, reports the Times Colonist.
And while the UK may not be enjoying the highest summer climes just yet, even a mild day may cause a car to get very hot inside as there is nowhere for the air to escape.
In related news, a product review this week saw a car seatbelt designed for dogs given attention.
An item such as this could ensure a safe journey for the pet pooch, according to Product Reviews, while it may also give peace of mind and minimise injury should an accident occur.
