Pet insurance 'will cover flood-related injury'

As regions throughout the country experience flooding, one expert has advised pet owners that specialist insurance could help cover injuries to their animals.
A spokesperson from Norwich Union said that home contents insurance will not cover either injures or the loss of a pet. Instead he explains that pet insurance would be required to provide that level of cover.
"If your pet is injured, that is what pet insurance is there for," he added.
However, he did state that home insurance can help pet owners in different ways.
He explains that if someone is forced to relocate and their animal needs to go into a kennel, then "reasonable" costs associated with this would be covered.
The Norwich Union spokesman added that building insurance could also be used if a kennel or cattery is sold out and someone has to take on additional costs to safely house their pet.
Norwich Union, which is currently the sponsor of the British Athletics team, is part of the Aviva Group - which is the fifth-largest insurer in the world.
