Floods 'could cause pet insurance claims'

Recent flooding experienced across the UK may have caused British pets to become injured, a pet insurance provider said yesterday.
While humans in flood-hit areas may be facing a water shortage or property damage, Direct Line's PR manager Carmel McCarthy said that pets may also be at risk from poisoning or bone breakages.
In fact, she claimed, pets are more at risk in heavy rain than in a hot summer - as owners can take precautions for the latter but the former could cause an animal to go missing.
"With a flash flood, your pet could be washed away," Ms McCarthy said. "I think it's important that if you do own a pet, it's important to have pet insurance whether you live in a flood-risk area or not."
As with all types of insurance, pet insurance policies vary and each may provide cover for different aspects of an animal's maintenance and upkeep.
