Couple give dogs their own bedroom

Building their dream home, various luxuries may have been on the agenda for American couple the Lingenfelters - in addition to a special room for their four dogs.

According to the Shreveport Times, the family decided to install a separate room for the pooches, meaning they can go out when they please and not require constant supervision.

While an entire room might not be feasible for many homeowners, pet safety could be maximised by installing suitable equipment and getting adequate pet insurance.

However, the Lingenfelters chose to make the dogs' room as comfortable as possible with air-conditioning and heating ready for all weather conditions.

"People who are dog lovers say 'I wish I had one'," she said. "Others think we're crazy. We're homebodies and our dogs are our babies."

Meanwhile, the importance of pet insurance was last week highlighted by Direct Line.

The company's PR manager Carmel McCarthy suggested pet owners who do not ensure cover for their furry friends could end up spending a fortune on medical bills.
