Dog and cat win fittest pet awards

In addition to a comprehensive pet insurance plan, keeping an animal fit and healthy could be key to prolonging its life and minimising any discomfort or high medical bills.
With this in mind, the Fittest Pets of the Year have been named this week by Banfield's in the US, a privately-owned veterinary practice.
Taking one of two crowns was Tyson Collins, a Labrador who shed 20 lbs through a low-calorie diet and taking long walks with its owner.
Accompanying Tyson to the winners' podium was Boris Bivins, a cat who has slimmed down by 15 per cent of his whole body weight - equal to a loss of 3.5 lbs.
"Since the weight loss, Boris is more active now," said the Bivins family.
"One night he jumped up on the TV and we could not believe that he made the jump - an incredible feat for Boris."
Research from Sainsbury's Pet Insurance recently discovered a third of all UK pets were classed as obese.
