Pet owners given cleaning tips

Dogs and cats require many things - food, care, training and pet insurance among others - but part of the responsibility of owning one is also cleaning up after them.
And while this may seem simple, there are ways pet lovers can ensure maximum cleanliness and hygiene, according to the Soap and Detergent Association (SDA).
Firstly, vacuuming regularly is essential for getting rid of hair shed by the dog or cat, reports the Akron Beacon Journal.
If redecorating, owners may be wise to consider a synthetic carpet with a stain-resistant coating as this is easier to clean and maintain than a wool or cotton equivalent, the SDA added.
As for where the pet sleeps, a blanket is recommended for use on the sofa if this is where the animal tends to snooze. Alternatively, a comfortable bed may be a good option to keep them off the furniture.
It is also important to brush a cat or dog regularly, as this can help to keep their coat healthy and shiny. However, always wash the brush and your hands after doing so.
The SDA also focuses on issues such as the use of laundry detergents and hand sanitisers.
