Bolton's cat population booms

The number of stray cats in Bolton has reached breaking point due to passionate tom cats, according to the Bolton News.
Many owners are not reporting missing felines, resulting in numerous animals being taken to the RSPCA as strays after the report that some un-neutered cats are straying "for miles" in order to pursue feline affection.
A number of pet insurance policies will cover the cost of veterinary bills such as injections, medicines and spaying or neutering amorous animals.
Deputy branch administrator for Bolton RSPCA Julie Ashcroft stated that there is a network of foster homes for stray cats, but that it is "struggling" at the moment due to a steady increase in the number of strays.
At any one time, charities and carers in the Bolton area have around 100 cats in their care, where they are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and chipped.
Research earlier this year by Direct Line pet insurance revealed that 23 per cent of bereaved Brits take days off work upon the death of their pets.
