RSPCA launches pet-slimming scheme

Tubby cats and dogs who need to shed some weight may be helped by a new initiative from the RSPCA.
Entitled Pets Get Slim, the scheme involves a series of roadshows with TV vet Joe Inglis offering tips and advice on keeping pets trim.
Pet obesity is thought by many to be a growing problem and could lead to costly medical bills or pet insurance claims.
The Pets Get Slim website also invites owners to register their furry friend with a target weight and be encouraged to help them reach it.
And the advice page has a number of handy hints on how to stop your cat or dog piling on the pounds - such as not to give in when they beg for treats, correctly estimating how much food to give them and showering the pet with attention instead of too much food.
Joe Inglis has featured on a number of television shows such as Vets in Practice. He was also Blue Peter's resident vet for a number of years.
