A dog who needed a new knee is now the proud and increasingly mobile owner of one after a £5,000 operation.
Bearded collie Grace was struck down by arthritis and left unable to walk, reports the Daily Mail.
But her owners, who had saved up the money for a new bathroom, decided to go ahead with a state-of-the-art surgical procedure which involves a metal and plastic prosthesis replacing damaged cartilage in the joint.
Julie and John Parker "didn't think twice" about spending the cash on Grace rather than a new toilet and shower.
"Before she was very immobile and in a lot of pain, but this should now give her five or seven years of good quality life," chief veterinary surgeon Malcolm McKee told the newspaper.
Although this type of surgery is new, other medical procedures are often required by pets and can result in larger bills for the owner.
However, pet lovers may find that a comprehensive pet insurance policy can safeguard against unexpected payouts and provide financial assistance should treatment be needed.
