Tortoises "need proper care and attention"

Tortoises remain one of the UK's most loved pets, but they require special care and attention, according to a Scottish Aquatic Centre.
Jaimie Tait from Comely Green Place Aquatic Centre told the Scotsman that a tortoise should not just be kept in a box.
"If someone is thinking of buying one, we would always recommend they get a book on them. Tortoises need proper care and attention."
"They are a very complex animal to look after and will need a vivarium with UV lighting and heating. Depending on the breed, they will have different diets," he added.
Not taking into consideration the specialised care a tortoise needs can result in them becoming ill. However, owners may be able to avoid having to shell out for expensive veterinary bills by taking out a comprehensive pet insurance policy.
Recent research by Sainsbury's pet insurance found that many pet owners like to treat their pets with food and snacks, which can lead to animals becoming sick or overweight.
