Pet owners advised to 'belt-up' their dogs
Posted :

Drivers should ensure that their pets are safely secured when they travel with them in a vehicle, it has been reported.
According to the News & Star, motorists should use a seatbelt harness, pet cage or carrier to make sure that their animal does not endanger the lives of anyone else in or around the vehicle.
The publication notes that an unsecured animal may move around in a car, obstructing the driver's view or compromising their ability to operate the vehicle.
Should a crash take place, an unrestrained pet may be thrown around and injure itself or attack people who try to help.
Ensuring that an animal is properly secured in a vehicle may reduce the likelihood of it sustaining injuries that may require expensive pet insurance claims.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents recommends that drivers should check to see if their pet insurance covers injuries sustained in a car accident.
