Injured dog on route to recovery

A dog in Norwich with in-growing eyelashes is on the road to recovery after donations from local organisations and animal-lovers, it has been reported.

The 18-month-old canine, called Layla, required some £3,500 worth of electrolysis treatment to resolve the problem after injuring her eyes after scratching due to the discomfort.

On the operating table it was discovered by veterinary staff that the Weimaraner had a much rarer condition than was first thought, but this did not stop the treatment going ahead.

Owner Barbara Harris told the Norwich Evening News: "It went really well and she's happily recovering. However, the vet Lorraine found that instead of two sets of eyelashes - she actually has three or four. It's a really rare case."

Layla may not have required money to be raised for her had her owner taken out comprehensive pet insurance, which could have covered the cost of bills - especially since the condition was found to be rarer than originally thought.

It was reported last month that the Pet Care Trust stated that pet insurance may provide reassurance and lessen heartache should animal-lovers have to take their pets to the vet and incur large bills.
