Round hound slims down at pet fat camp

A border collie that recently weighed in at some 40 kg has enrolled in Lincolnshire's first residential fat camp for pets, it has been reported.
Big Ollie, as the dog is known at the facility, has undergone a rigorous schedule of exercise and dieting through the Fit Fur Pets programme at Brinkle Springs Kennel and Cattery and has lost two kg, with a further four needed to be shed by the time can graduate from the scheme.
The Lincolnshire Echo reports that the optimum weight for the porky pooch is between 22-24 kg and that Ollie is not alone in being obese as almost half of the seven million pets in the UK are classed as overweight or morbidly obese.
Pets that are overfed and do not have sufficient exercise run the risk of becoming sick, while taking out comprehensive pet insurance is a precaution that owners can take in order to minimise financial difficulties should an animal require a costly veterinary procedure due to ill health.
