Pets can 'have positive mental effects on young people'

Research carried out for the chain store Pets at Home has indicated that pets can have a positive effect on the wellbeing of young people, it has been reported.
The study indicated that some 81 per cent of respondents frequently talked to their pets on a regular basis.
Vet Trude Mostue told the Daily Record that she was bullied as a child and took comfort from a strong bond with her pet cat.
"Animals don't bully you, they don't answer you back. Whether they have fins or feathers, the benefits are basically the same - it's a creature who loves you for what you are and I think that's rare for young people," she said.
She added that taking animals for a walk provides a means for both pets and young owners to exercise and remain healthy.
Comprehensive pet insurance provides a way for the owners of furry friends to potentially avoid costly veterinary bills should their cuddly confidant develop an illness and require an operation.
The need to provide domestic animals with means of identification such as collars and tags was highlighted by a recent report in the Norwich Evening News where a family pet went missing for some two months.
