Pet adoption week to take place this month

This month will mark the first national RSPCA Pet Adoption Week, it has been announced.
Animal lovers thinking of giving a pet a new home are being encouraged to visit one of the society's rehoming centres, reports the Halifax Courier.
Chief veterinary adviser at the RSPCA Mark Evans commented that the society has hundreds of animals looking for new homes.
"Through no fault of their own, many of them have had a tough time. Adopting an animal from the RSPCA gives them a much-needed second chance and you will be able to enjoy the wonderful feeling of knowing you've given a special home to an animal that really needs it," he added.
Of the animals that need to be rehomed, some may be abandoned due to them developing an illness that their owners cannot afford to have treated. Comprehensive pet insurance may provide a means for owners to reduce potentially costly veterinary bills.
Pet Adoption Week will run from October 20th to 28th and during this period RSPCA animal centres will be holding open days.
