People 'look for the same character traits' in pets and partners

Loyalty, intelligence, affectionate and good company are among the traits many people look for in both their pets and partners, a new poll has indicated.
However, the study by the RSPCA - which has been undertaken in conjunction with pet adoption week - also suggests that people can sometimes consider their own needs before those of their animals.
For example, the amount of exercise required by a pet is a characteristic they would not value highly in a furry friend.
Andy Foxcroft, chief officer for the inspectorate, commented: "The fact that most people don't value the amount of exercise an animal needs as an important characteristic might help explain why many owners say their animals are too energetic when handing them over to the RSPCA."
Pets that do not receive enough exercise run the risk of becoming overweight and ill, while comprehensive pet insurance may provide a way for owners to ensure that if their animals become ill they are able to more easily cope with potentially costly veterinary bills.
