Skinny pigs 'the latest in must-have pets'

The latest designer pet is a variety of guinea pig with no body hair other than small tuft on its face and feet, it has been reported.

Referred to as the skinny pig, the breed has a number of special requirements.

It needs to be moisturised regularly to prevent its skin from drying out and a layer of sunscreen during the summer to stop it being burnt.

While in the winter months, the animal has so little insulation that a small jumper is ideal to prevent it becoming too cold.

Many pets may have special requirements with regard to their diet, exercise and immunisation.

Therefore, it may be advisable for consumers to carry out thorough research before purchasing an animal and buying pet insurance may also be a prudent decision.
