Pet care guide issued

Pet insurance provider Petplan has issued a free guide for consumers on how to reduce the distress and injuries that loud firework explosions can potentially cause to their animals.
With Guy Fawkes' night and Diwali celebrations due to be observed by many in the near future, the firm has also noted the potential for long-term behaviour problems in domestic animals that are affected by noisy fireworks.
Vet Marc Abraham comments that pets are used to a comparatively quiet life and as such any change in routine can affect them and loud bangs and flashes are likely to make them panic.
"The terrifying noise of fireworks can lead to long-term behavioural problems and in many cases leave them with an ongoing sensitivity towards noise," he says.
Halifax recently advised consumers to consider investing in pet insurance to protect their furry friends against any potential risks they may face during bonfire night celebrations.
