Pets with existing illnesses can get insurance, says PDSA

Animals that suffer from a long-term condition can get pet insurance, but the policy will not cover the costs of the illness, a leading veterinary charity stated in recent days.
The PDSA noted that if an animal were to be acquired and it had an ailment such as diabetes, the cost of treatment for the malady would not be included in the animal's pet insurance policy.
John Cole, spokesperson for the PDSA, explained that this was because if a provider knows what condition a pet has, it will be aware of the costs of treatment, but added that anything else that may affect a domestic animal would be covered.
"If you get a dog from a rescue home and it's got diabetes and you take out a policy that excludes its diabetes, and then the dog develops a heart problem, everything else is covered," he concluded.
The PDSA promotes responsible pet ownership and provides free veterinary treatment to over 4,600 ill and injured animals every working day.
